Sending out of character messages
Click on the chat input line to enable text input.
Type the message, as a line of dialogue spoken by you as a player.
Press alt-enter.
As an alternative to the previous step, you can start the entire message with "/ooc", followed by a space, and simply press
enter. This also allows you to make hot keys for the message.
The line will be sent in a font identifying out of character chat.
Sending action messages
If the action you intend to describe is something that does not require a separate approval by the GM, or a resolution
of success or failure, consider using an emote message instead.
Click on the chat input line to enable text input.
Type the message, as a passage describing the action your character intends to take.
Press ctrl-enter.
As an alternative to the previous step, you can start the entire message with "/act", followed by a space, and simply press
enter. This also allows you to make hot keys for the message.
The line will be sent in a font identifying character action messages.
Sending emotes
Make sure the action you intend to describe is something that does not require a separate approval by the GM, or a resolution
of success or failure. If that is required, use an action message instead.
Click on the chat input line to enable text input.
Type the message, as a sentence describing a character action starting with your character's name, but omit the name.
Press ctrl-shift-enter.
As an alternative to the previous step, you can start the entire message with "/emote", followed by a space, and simply press
enter. This also allows you to make hot keys for the message.
The line will be sent in a font identifying emote messages, with the character name automatically prefixed.
Whispering to the GM
Click on the chat input line to enable text input.
Type in the command "/whisper" (can be abbreviated to e.g. "/w"), followed by a space. Type the message you want to send to the GM
following the command.
Press enter.
The line will be sent to the GM, without being revealed to the other connected clients.
Accessing second chat buffer
If you want to quickly comment on a game issue at hand while writing a lenghty piece of dialogue, it is convenient to use the second chat buffer to do that.
Write some text on the chat input line
Hold down the Control key and press either up or down arrow key
A second chat buffer opens up showing the text remaining in that buffer, if any
Resume the earlier buffer by holding down the Control key and pressing either up or down arrow
